Performance Index

The performance index is a dynamic scoring system that tracks validator accuracy and determines task assignment probability.
Starting with the maximum value for all new validators, this metric fluctuates based on voting alignment with the majority consensus, creating incentive mechanisms for accurate decision-making.

Index Mechanics

In Overlap, the performance index operates as a scoring system.
The index increases when your votes align with the majority and decreases when your votes deviate from consensus.
The induced penalty is proportional to both the degree of deviation and the dominance of the majority vote.
This creates dynamic adjustments where a validator's index continuously evolves based on each task outcome, reflecting real-time performance and maintaining constant incentives for accuracy.

Validators must maintain consistently high performance to remain eligible for future tasks.

Performance and Task Assignment

The performance index directly influences a validator's earning opportunities through weighted probability assignment:

  1. Higher performance increases a validator's probability of being assigned new tasks.
  2. Validators with superior performance metrics receive significantly more task assignments.
  3. Every task outcome affects future assignment probability, maintaining constant performance pressure.
  4. Consistently high performance incentivizes users to delegate votes to this validator to benefit from potentially greater rewards.
Incentive Alignment

Through performance-driven competition and stochastic characteristics in task assignment, validators are consistently incentivized to maintain high performance, while voters are incentivized to elect high-performing validators who earn more rewards.
