Overlap FAQ

What blockchain networks does Overlap support?+
Overlap currently supports Ethereum and Arbitrum, with plans to bridge on other EVM-compatible networks.
How does the validator selection algorithm work?+
Validators are selected based on a combination of vote count, performance metrics, and random probability. The algorithm favors validators trusted by the community and with consistently high performance.
What is the minimum stake required to become a validator?+
Minimum stake requirements are determined by the protocol and may vary depending on network stage. During the alpha release, the stake requirement is fixed at 0.05 ETH for all validators.
Is there an Overlap token?+
No, currently Overlap prioritizes economic stability by using ETH for all deposits and rewards during the initial launch phase.
How are disputes resolved?+
Disputes are resolved through a multi-validator evaluation process using consensus mechanisms. Validators are incentivized to vote for the truth. Consistent validators earn economic and performance rewards.
What happens if a validator fails to complete their assigned task?+
Validators who fail to complete tasks face penalties, including stake reduction and performance loss. Penalized validators are less favored by the community and are deselected by the algorithm.
How are rewards distributed?+
Rewards are distributed proportionally among validators who form the majority for each task. Validators may share a portion of their rewards with their voters on a commission basis.
Can I deregister as a validator?+
Validators can deregister at any time. When leaving, they receive their initial stake minus a portion proportional to any performance loss. Departing validators can return later, and the protocol retains records of their past votes and performance.
Why should I vote for a validator?+
Users vote for validators to help secure the network and earn a share of the rewards. Validators distribute a portion of their earned rewards to their voters on a commission basis.
How do I vote for a validator?+
Users can vote for one or multiple validators with any amount of ETH. The staked amount is applied to the chosen validators, and users earn rewards proportional to the validator’s total staked balance at the time of voting.
How do I unvote a validator?+
Users can unvote at any time, reclaiming the staked ETH.
What happens to the staked ETH?+
All ETH staked through voting is held in the platform as Lido ETH. Through Lido integration, staked ETH earns rewards while also acting as voting power. Upon withdrawal, both the initial stake and accrued rewards are converted to ETH and transferred to the user’s wallet.
