Ethereum
Overlap is a cross-chain protocol operating simultaneously on Ethereum and Arbitrum.
Its architecture leverages Ethereum’s deep liquidity and security, while utilizing Arbitrum’s scalability and low transaction fees.
Overview
Overlap’s dual-chain design enables a balanced system:
- Ethereum (L1) handles validator registration, voting, and reward accounting using native L1 assets.
- Arbitrum (L2) processes task resolutions efficiently, allowing validators to submit results with minimal gas costs.
This approach removes cost redundancies and promotes a decentralized and inclusive environment, combining Ethereum’s liquidity with Arbitrum’s efficiency.
Users pay only for the creation of tasks, while validators perform their work at near-zero cost.
Ethereum Smart Contracts
Smart contracts on Ethereum maintain the core registry of validators and track their eligibility status.
They hold validator deposits, manage delegation and voting mechanics, and synchronize validator states with Arbitrum.
Main Ethereum-side functionalities include:
- Validator Registration – Join the network as validator.
- Deregistration – Withdraw your candidacy and leave the protocol.
- Voting – Delegate voting power to a validator.
- Unvoting – Withdraw your delegated votes and balance.
- Claiming Rewards – Collect validator earnings.
Overlap’s architecture ensures scalability, security, and inclusiveness for all participants.
