How is Overlap Different

slug: /quickstart/WhatMakesOverlapDifferent

Overlap transforms oracle networks by addressing the plutocracy problem. In existing networks, wealth determines influence, concentrating control in the hands of a few. Overlap solves this with a voter delegation model, letting users assign their voting power to validators while controlling them through performance. This creates a performance-driven system where skill and reliability determine influence and rewards.

Every part of Overlap is built to keep incentives fair and balanced. Overlap uses two layers of penalties, combining quick economic slashing with long-term performance loss, to keep participants honest. Its consensus system weighs performance and can handle more than just yes-or-no questions, making decisions more accurate and flexible. Rewards are shared between both validators and their voters, benefiting the whole ecosystem. Users are incentivized to select the best validators, who achieve higher performance, are elected more often, attract more tasks, and share more rewards with their voters, strengthening their presence in the system and making the network more accurate and democratic over time.
